Berkshire Lowland Search & Rescue has been providing high quality training to the Lowland Search & Rescue community since 1995. We wrote and delivered the very first courses and are still providing courses today.

Search Technician

This course covers elements 2 & 6 of the ALSAR competencies framework for becoming an operational Lowland Search Technician.

During the weekend you will learn:-

  • Searcher Preparedness
  • Search Techniques
  • Detection & Recognition Skills
  • Dealing with Clues
  • Crime Scenes and Evidence
  • Missing Person Behaviour

You'll also take part in a simulated search exercise.

The course is highly practical with most of the weekend being spent in the extensive grounds of Easthampstead Park Conference Centre learning search skills and putting these into action.

Search Team Leader

Every team needs good Team Leaders. They are responsible for directing the Search Technicians and delivering the search plan and are a critical element of every successful search.

This course covers all the ALSAR search skills modules that are necessary for a Team leader such as:-

  • Prioritisation
  • Risk Assessing
  • Leadership

  • Health & Safety

Search Planning

This course provides a solid foundation for planning the immediate and initial phases of a missing person incident. It is suitable for use as an ALSAR Search Coordinator.

The course is based on the 6 Step Process which is a popular framework for managing search operations and involves classroom time spent learning and undertaking a variety of tabletop exercises to simulate missing person emergencies, all based mainly upon real life incidents from the teams 32 years of operations.

The course covers some of the following subjects:-

  • Role and responsibilities of the Search Planner
  • Use of Missing Person Statistics
  • The 6 Step Process framework for managing searches
  • Scenario based planning
  • Writing search plans
  • Putting the search plan into operation
