With recent flooding across Berkshire, it’s not just people who feel the impact of rising rivers wildlife can quickly find themselves in distress.

On Friday, 19 February, a deer needed help on a small island in Frogmill, near Hurley on the River Thames. Teams from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, with support from Berkshire Lowland Search & Rescue (BLSAR), attended the incident.
After more than two hours of patient, calm teamwork, the deer was rescued - a true multi-agency effort with a positive outcome.
Heavy rainfall can change landscapes quickly - for residents, for responders, and for the animals that call these areas home.
While BLSAR’s primary role is searching for missing high-risk vulnerable people, our volunteers are proud to work alongside partners and emergency service colleagues to support communities - including wildlife in need.
