We are in URGENTneed of a new base
Once again we are at threat of being made homeless, our current site is undergoing development, which could mean our home may be demolished very soon. Our operation means that we need to house 4 vehicles, a boat, plus a vast array of specialist search equipment. There is also a need for a training room, mess room and an office.
Ideally, we are looking for a centrally located space within the Bracknell, Wokingham or east Reading areas.
Our appeal to you is to help us find new premises at an affordable rent.
In 2023 alone we were tasked with 74 callouts, amounting to over 11,000 volunteer hours supporting Thames Valley Police and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue service in their mission to save lives. Yet we charge no fee, nor do we receive any sort of funding, other than charitable donations. Obviously this means our funds are very limited when it comes to sourcing a permanent base. We exist on approximately £35,000 per year, much of that is consumed with rent, fuel costs and equipment purchase / replacement.
- A secure building that could accommodate a large training room, mess room, equipment storage etc. This might be a warehouse, farm building or workshop/garage. Ideally, we are looking for around 8000 sq ft in total with 3,000 sq ft internal space. The outside area needs to hold x4 vans and x1 boat trailer.
- An area where we can store the vehicles and kit only. For this we would need around 5000 sqft external and 2000 sqft internal. (Obviously this is a less preferential option!)
- A big ask, but if you can not help us find new premises, could you help financially in some way?
As the oldest Lowland Rescue team in the UK, operating since 1980, it would be unthinkable for us to be forced to halt our life-saving work due to inadequate facilities. Our team has been a vital resource in Berkshire for over four decades, and ensuring we have the necessary infrastructure is crucial to continuing our mission.
If you can help us in any way, please contact us below, thankyou.
